How to Beat Shadow Miyazawa in Persona 5: The Phantom X
Facing off against Shadow Miyazawa, the final boss of Miyazawa’s Palace in Persona 5: The Phantom X, can be tricky if you don’t know his tricks. This fight is packed with gimmicks that require sharp observation and smart strategy. Attack the wrong target, and things get a lot tougher. Let’s break down exactly how to spot the real Miyazawa, manage his clones, and survive his powerful attacks.
- Key phases of the Shadow Miyazawa fight
- Recommended party setup and damage types
- How to identify the real Miyazawa and avoid clones
- Strategies for debuffs, cameras, swords, and more
Prepare Your Team Wisely
Before you jump into the fight, make sure your party is ready. You’ll want to bring a mix of Ice and Physical damage dealers—these work best against Miyazawa and his minions. Avoid Psychic damage since it gets nullified during the fight. Also, having a Medic like Minami Miyashita or Morgana is crucial because Miyazawa can hit hard if you slip up. You’ll need someone who can remove debuffs or use items like Relax Gels and Alert Capsules to keep your team in shape.
Phase 1: Straightforward Battle
The first phase is simple. Just focus on damaging Miyazawa himself—no tricks here. Once his HP drops below 50%, the fight moves to the next phase.
Phase 2: Watch Out for Clones
Now things get interesting. Miyazawa summons two clones, and hitting a fake one causes damage back to your character. Avoid area attacks because the clones will counter immediately. To find the real Miyazawa, watch their idle animations closely. The real one nods off and shakes his head to wake up. Alternatively, wait for Miyazawa’s attack; after striking, he drops his sword and retreats—then you have a window to attack him directly.
Phase 3: Stronger but No Gimmicks
After a cutscene, Miyazawa gets tougher. He targets one character with a strong attack, then deals AoE damage to the rest. Healing before his turn is a smart move here.
Phase 4: Nuisance Debuff
Miyazawa applies a Nuisance debuff to a party member and hides in the wall. The affected character can start attacking teammates unless you remove the debuff quickly with a Persona skill or items like Relax Gel or Alert Capsule. Use your healthiest or curse-resistant member to cleanse the debuff, and have others guard to reduce incoming damage. Then hit Miyazawa hard when he reappears.
Phase 5: Destroy the Cameras
Miyazawa summons two cameras weak to Physical attacks. They don’t attack, but if you destroy them both, Miyazawa becomes vulnerable. Take them out quickly because he’ll unleash heavy damage if you don’t. After this, the fight goes back to normal until his health dips low enough to trigger the next phase.
Phase 6: The Sword Challenge
This final phase is the most dangerous. Miyazawa summons four swords, but only one is real—the one with a magenta tassel on the hilt. Attacking fake swords buffs Miyazawa, and destroying one triggers a powerful AoE attack. Avoid AoE moves here! Also, during “One More” attacks, don’t use Ice skills because the attack will hit a fake sword, buffing Miyazawa. Instead, use other party members to target the sword with the lowest HP.
Destroy the real sword to force Miyazawa to attack your whole party, then hit him hard until he repeats the sword phase. Keep at it until you finally defeat Shadow Miyazawa!
