Master Your Madness: Easy Tips to Stay Strong and Survive in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

How to Manage and Reduce Madness in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers introduces a unique Madness system that impacts your gameplay by making enemies tougher but also boosting your own power. If you want to enjoy the game without getting overwhelmed, understanding how to control Madness is key.

  • What Madness is and how it builds up
  • Effects of different Madness levels on gameplay
  • Simple ways to reduce Madness and reset your gauge

What Is Madness and How Does It Build Up?

In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, your character harbors an inner demon that grows stronger as your Madness meter fills. You gain Madness mainly by dying or killing non-Feathered humanoid enemies. For example, every death adds 15 Madness points regardless of how it happened — whether from a powerful enemy attack or falling off a ledge.

Some consumables like Maddening Incense can also increase Madness and prevent its loss temporarily. Additionally, using the Invoke menu at shrines to buy items may raise your Madness level.

Keep an eye on your Madness gauge via the small portrait at the bottom left of the screen. You can also check the exact Madness points and visual cues in the character menu. As Madness rises, Wuchang’s appearance changes, starting with glowing red eyes and progressing to demonic red marks on her body.

How Madness Affects Gameplay

When your Madness is above 90%, you deal more damage and earn more red mercury from enemies — but you also take more damage. Between 50% and 90%, dying causes you to lose most of your red mercury, which can be frustrating if you’re trying to hold onto your progress.

Interestingly, even at max Madness, some red mercury might remain after death, contrary to what the game suggests.

Effective Ways to Reduce Madness

While a high Madness level boosts your attacks, it also makes the game tougher. Luckily, there are straightforward methods to bring your Madness back down:

  • Defeat or die to your Inner Demon: When Madness maxes out, your Inner Demon appears at your last death spot. You can either kill it or let it kill you. Both options reset your Madness, but killing it lets you recover lost red mercury.
  • Kill Feathered enemies: Taking down regular zombie-like Feathered foes reduces Madness by one point each.
  • Use Divine Gift fragments or Divine Gift: Interact with the statue in Shu Sanctum to cleanse more Madness.

By balancing when to embrace Madness and when to reset it, you can tailor your approach to each encounter and enjoy Wuchang: Fallen Feathers without getting overwhelmed.
