How to Enable Copper Golems

Currently, copper golems are only available as an experimental feature on Minecraft Bedrock Edition. They won’t spawn in the standard game just yet. According to Minecraft’s official website, copper golems will be officially released in the third game drop of 2025, part of a copper-themed update.

If you want to try them out now, here’s how to enable experimental features depending on your platform:

  • Windows PC and Xbox: Install Minecraft Preview from the Microsoft Store or Game Pass app. Then, in the Minecraft Launcher, select “latest preview” before playing.
  • iOS: Use the Testflight app to join the beta. Slots are limited, but you’ll be notified if one opens.
  • Android: Join the beta via the Google Play Store by selecting “Join the Beta” on the Minecraft app page.

Remember to activate experimental features in your world settings each time you start a new world or switch worlds. Currently, copper golems are unavailable on Java Edition, but they will appear soon in Java Snapshots. When that happens, select “Latest Snapshot” in the launcher to try them out.

How to Craft a Copper Golem

Copper golems don’t spawn naturally, so crafting is the only way to get one. To create a copper golem, place a carved pumpkin or a jack o’lantern on top of a copper block. Regular pumpkins won’t work.

Here’s how to prepare the copper block:

  1. Mine raw copper using a stone pickaxe or better. Copper ore looks like gray stone with orange and greenish specks.
  2. Smelt at least nine raw copper in a furnace fueled by wood or charcoal to get nine copper ingots.
  3. At your crafting table, fill all nine slots with copper ingots to make a copper block.

To get a carved pumpkin:

  1. Find a pumpkin in grassy biomes.
  2. Harvest it with any tool.
  3. Use shears (crafted from two iron ingots) on the pumpkin to carve it.

You can also make a jack o’lantern by combining a carved pumpkin with a torch, but this isn’t necessary for spawning the golem.

Place the copper block on the ground, then equip the carved pumpkin and place it on the block. This will spawn your copper golem and transform the copper block into a special copper chest linked to the golem’s task.

Note that there is no spawn egg for copper golems in Creative Mode yet, so this crafting method is your only option for now.

Using Your Copper Golem

Copper golems are your new best friends for managing storage. They automatically sort and store items by taking them from their linked copper chest and placing them into regular storage chests nearby.

So after a mining trip, just dump your resources into the copper chest, and your golem will handle the rest. If you destroy the original copper chest or want to move it, the golem will use any other copper chest nearby. Just remember it must be a copper chest—normal chests are ignored.

For example, if you have diamond chestplates in ordinary chests, the golem won’t touch them. But place one of those in a nearby copper chest, and the golem will store it alongside others in that chest.

Changing Your Copper Golem’s Color

Like other copper items, copper golems oxidize over time, changing their color from red-brown to green-blue. This doesn’t affect their function at all.

If you prefer the original look, you can use a honeycomb on the golem to remove oxidation and restore its fresh copper color.

Keep in mind that the golem’s initial oxidation level matches the copper block you used to spawn it. If you used a fully oxidized block, the golem will spawn oxidized too. Waxed copper blocks won’t spawn waxed golems—you have to wax the golem manually.
