Miss Miiverse? Miiverse-Inspired Visual Novel Videoverse Arrives on Switch and Consoles Nov. 14

Videoverse, a 2023 visual novel inspired by Nintendo’s now-defunct Miiverse, is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on Nov. 14. The game first launched on Windows PC in 2023, and this console release arrives two years after that initial release.
Videoverse comes to consoles
Developer Lucy Blundell’s Videoverse will be published on consoles by Ratalaika Games. Specifically, the game is scheduled for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on Nov. 14, and it follows the game’s 2023 Windows PC release.
What the game is
Videoverse is a five-hour visual novel set in 2003. It follows Emmett, a young gamer who joins a social app built into the Kinmoku Shark — a Dreamcast-like console with video chat and community message boards. The app in the game is closely modeled after Nintendo’s Miiverse, and the story unfolds through comment threads and video chats.
When it first released in 2023, Videoverse earned critical attention. In fact, it reached #12 on Metacritic’s list of the best reviewed games of 2023, which you can see on this Metacritic page.
Release details and extras
The console port will include all post-launch content from the PC version, including the art gallery. Additionally, the release will feature a full Japanese translation.
Publisher and content
Ratalaika Games is handling the console ports. Therefore, the Switch and other console versions are expected to match the PC release in terms of included extras and updates.
Why it fits on Switch
Videoverse’s in-game app recreates the feel of systems like the 3DS and Wii U Miiverse. Consequently, the Switch is a natural platform for the game because of its history and its handheld play style. The game also uses a fictional console camera and video chat in its narrative, which aligns with modern console features.
Where to play now
Videoverse is available now on Windows PC. Meanwhile, the console editions arrive on Nov. 14 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
