Major additions and date

Mortal Kombat 1 joins the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Consequently, PlayStation 5 subscribers will be able to play the game for free through the Catalog starting that date. Mortal Kombat 1 originally launched in 2023 and continues the story from Mortal Kombat 11, with Liu Kang now in the role of the Fire God. In addition, the game introduces new fighter variations and mechanics such as Kameos, which act as assist characters during matches.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: PS5 vs PS4

Also arriving in the Game Catalog is Marvel’s Spider-Man. According to the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation 5 users will receive the Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered version, while PS4 users will get the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition. Additionally, PS4 players in relevant markets may be able to stream the base PS4 game.

Other Game Catalog additions

Beyond those two headliners, PlayStation is adding several more titles to the Catalog. These join on PS5 and, in some cases, PS4:

  • Sword of the Sea — PS5
  • Earth Defense Force 6 — PS5, PS4
  • Unicorn Overlord — PS5, PS4
  • Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key — PS5, PS4
  • Indika — PS5
  • Harold Halibut — PS5
  • Coral Island — PS5

PlayStation Plus Premium additions

In addition, PlayStation Plus Premium will add classic remakes: the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are coming to the Premium tier on both PS4 and PS5.

Overall, this month’s catalog update gives PS5 players several new options, while PS4 users get a mix of native and streamed access. For full details and any regional differences, see the PlayStation Blog announcement linked above.
