MTG Arena Is About to Unleash the Power Nine — Arena Powered Cube Drops Oct. 28

MTG Arena is getting a long-requested limited event: the Arena Powered Cube, a Powered (Vintage-style) cube draft that brings some of Magic’s most powerful cards to Arena players. It starts October 28 and will run for a few weeks, giving Arena players a chance to draft with cards that rarely appear in Arena formats.

What the Arena Powered Cube is
A cube is a special kind of Booster Draft that pulls cards from a fixed pool, not from a single set. The Arena Powered Cube is Arena’s version of the popular Vintage Cube from Magic Online, and importantly, it will include some of Magic’s most famous cards — including the Power Nine. Furthermore, the event is a Phantom Player Draft, which means players do not keep the cards they draft.
Event schedule and entry cost
The event dates and entry options are concrete and straightforward. It begins on October 28, 8 a.m. PT (3 p.m. UTC), and signups close on November 18, 8 a.m. PT (3 p.m. UTC). You can enter with 10,000 gold, or 1,500 gems, or 1 Player Draft token. The event uses a structure like Premier Drafts: Best-of-One is ranked with a goal of seven wins or three losses, while Best-of-Three runs as three matches and is unranked.
Cards included and prize structure
According to the announcement, the Arena Powered Cube includes 100 new MTG Arena card printings. However, not all of those new printings will be collectible at the event’s release. This approach lets Arena include a larger card pool — and at the same time avoids pushing powerful cards into Constructed formats immediately.
Prizes follow a Premier-like model. During the event, players can earn Cube Prize Packs. These packs can contain almost every card legal in the Timeless format, plus cards from a special bonus sheet tied to the cube. For full prize details and the complete card list, see the official announcement.
Reception and context
Fans online are already comparing this launch to recent Arena set reception. In particular, some observers think this is a move to boost engagement after the poor reception of Through the Omenpaths. Critics have even called that set the least-played Arena set ever, according to some reports.
Where to find more info and streams
More details about the Arena Powered Cube and its cards will appear in the official announcement linked above. Also, on October 22, MTG pros Luis Scott-Vargas and Paul Cheon — both long-time Vintage Cube players — will post updates on their YouTube channels with insights and commentary.
In short: the Arena Powered Cube brings a true Powered experience to Arena for a limited time, uses a Premier-style entry and prize model, and includes a large card pool with a controlled release of new printings. If you want to try drafting with the Power Nine and other legendary cards, mark your calendar for October 28.
