Must-Play Game Pass Picks for Labor Day: A Gothic Roguelike, Alpine Dungeon Crawler, and the Indie That’ll Make You Cry Over Sheep

Long weekend ahead? If you’re planning to relax on the couch this Labor Day 2025, Game Pass has a few picks worth downloading. Below are three titles that cover different styles: a new roguelike sequel, a dungeon crawler with social-sim elements, and a cozy-but-stakes-filled indie about herding adorable creatures.

  • Dungeons of Hinterberg — a dungeon crawler from Microbird Games that mixes exploration and social-sim moments.
  • Herdling — a critter-herding adventure from Okomotive with surprising risk to your flock.

Lost in Random: The Eternal Die

Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is the follow-up to 2021’s Lost in Random. Moreover, it changes the series’ format: the sequel switches from third-person action-platforming to an isometric roguelike structure.

In this entry, you play a character positioned as the villain of the first game. The title keeps a gothic visual style and sends players through multiple realms inside a pocket-dimension. Each run ends at a limbo-style waystation, where you can spend upgrade materials to change and improve weapons for future attempts.

Dungeons of Hinterberg

Dungeons of Hinterberg blends dungeon-crawling with social-sim elements. The game was highlighted as one of the standout titles of summer 2024 for that mix of exploration and relationship-building.

You play as Luisa, who travels to the Austrian Alps for a vacation — which quickly becomes a series of dungeons to explore. In addition, the developer Microbird Games released a PlayStation port in March alongside a cross-platform update that adds content.

That update introduced the playable character Renaud, who brings new moves and extra story content while preserving the game’s established tone and style.

Herdling

Herdling is an adventure about guiding a flock of sheep-like creatures called Calicorns across scenic landscapes. The game is developed by Okomotive, the studio behind Far: Changing Tides.

Players must shepherd their Calicorns while avoiding hazards. For example, large predators such as giant owls and environmental dangers like cliffs can cause permanent loss of individual Calicorns, which affects how you approach later segments of the game.

Quick reminders before you play

First, these titles are good fits for a long weekend because they each support shorter sessions and repeat play: roguelike runs in Lost in Random, bite-sized dungeons in Hinterberg, and focused herding tasks in Herdling. Second, check your Game Pass app for availability and platform support before downloading.

Finally, keep your charger close and your Monday alarm off — but only for the weekend.
