Nintendo Direct Drops Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Ditto’s Own Game, New Fire Emblem and Metroid Prime 4 Date

Nintendo’s September Direct ran for about an hour and packed in new games, release dates, and a few surprises — from a Super Mario Galaxy movie to a solo Ditto game. Below you’ll find a clear rundown of every major announcement and the concrete facts that came out of the showcase.

Super Mario Bros. 40th and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Nintendo announced plans to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., with special events at the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto and a sponsorship of the 2026 Kyoto Marathon.

Additionally, Nintendo confirmed the title and release date for the next feature film: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie from Illumination and Nintendo will hit theaters on April 3, 2026.

Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 HD

Wii classics Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch on Oct. 2. Nintendo listed several enhancements: improved UI, optional button-and-stick or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content, and enhanced resolution. The Switch 2 version will support 4K resolution.

New amiibo will launch alongside the release: Mario & Luma, and Rosalina & Lumas. Also, Nintendo will publish a physical version of Rosalina’s Storybook featuring illustrations from the Galaxy games.

Mario Tennis Fever

Mario Tennis Fever is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and introduces new sliding and diving moves. The game will also include super-powered Fever Rackets that produce powerful effects, and it can trigger some Wonder Effects from Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with additional content titled Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park. That edition is due in spring 2026.

Alongside the re-release, Nintendo also mentioned a Talking Flower accessory that will be available in spring 2026.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Intelligent Systems revealed a new Fire Emblem game, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which is planned for release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond showed a gameplay trailer featuring exploration on a motorcycle. Nintendo confirmed a release date of Dec. 4.

Pokémon Pokopia

Nintendo revealed Pokémon Pokopia, a Ditto-focused game with gameplay that resembles building/sim-style titles. The game is in development for Nintendo Switch 2 and is planned for 2026.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A — Mega Dimension (DLC)

Ahead of Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s October release, Nintendo showed the game’s first DLC titled Mega Dimension. The DLC was presented as additional post-launch content for Z-A.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is a Zelda-themed action game for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo set the release date as Nov. 5.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

A new platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2026.

Virtual Boy games on Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo announced that Virtual Boy titles, including Mario’s Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Teleroboxer, will be added to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on Feb. 17.

In addition, Nintendo will release a physical Virtual Boy shell that you can slot your console into.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, a Mii-based simulation, now has a planned release window of spring 2026 for Nintendo Switch.

Donkey Kong Bananza DLC

Donkey Kong Bananza is getting paid DLC. The expansion includes a new area called DK Island, and a roguelite add-on named Emerald Rush where Donkey Kong collects green gems and can take work for Void Co.

Nintendo noted that Emerald Rush is available on Nintendo Switch 2 today, while DK Island is paid DLC as well.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (Switch 2)

Square Enix confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 release date for the first part of its Final Fantasy 7 remake project: Jan. 22, 2026.

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

A remake of Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on Feb. 5, 2026.

Hades 2

Supergiant Games’ Hades 2 will release on Sept. 25 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows PC.

Other ports, releases, and indie picks

Several other Switch 2 releases and ports were announced. Notably, Dynasty Warriors Origins (Switch 2) is due on Jan. 22, 2026, and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will arrive on Switch 2 on March 13, 2026.

Koei Tecmo also confirmed a remake of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Capcom is bringing Resident Evil Requiem to Switch 2. In addition, Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Resident Evil Village will release on Feb. 27, 2026.

Nintendo also showed more Switch 2 Edition upgrades for existing games, including One Piece Pirate Warriors 4, Overcooked 2, Stardew Valley, and Human Fall Flat.

Storm Lancers, a 2D action-platformer roguelike, is out today on Nintendo Switch.

Dinkum will arrive on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 5.

Popucom, a puzzle-shooter with Splatoon and Zuma vibes, is slated for release on Nintendo Switch sometime this holiday season.

Suika Game Planet, a new fruit-matching entry, is coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 this winter.
