Peacemaker Star Chukwudi Iwuji Could Return to the DCU—But Not How You Expect
If you’re a fan of Clemson Murn from Peacemaker, you might want to pay attention to some new info straight from James Gunn himself. The fate of Chukwudi Iwuji’s character in the ever-evolving DC Universe has just gotten a little clearer—well, sort of. Here’s what’s really happening with Murn, Iwuji, and the future of the DCU.
- James Gunn confirms Clemson Murn is canon in the DCU
- Chukwudi Iwuji might return—but not necessarily as Murn
- The new DCU canon is still being worked out
- Other Peacemaker and Suicide Squad actors could also return as different characters
Clemson Murn: Is He DCU Canon?
James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, recently dropped some news on the season 1 Peacemaker podcast. The big question: is Clemson Murn, as played by Chukwudi Iwuji, officially part of the new DCU canon? Gunn’s answer was, “I think Clemson Murn is canon.” However, there’s a twist. Gunn added, “Maybe his face might not be canon if we want to cast [Chukwudi Iwuji] as something else in the DCU. But also, Chuk could end up being some other character maybe that isn’t so humanoid.”
What Happened to Murn?
If you remember, Clemson Murn’s story in season one was pretty wild. His body was actually possessed by an alien butterfly named Ik Nobe Llok, and things ended badly for him—he was killed by Queen Eek Stack Ik Ik. So, fans never really expected to see Iwuji’s Murn back for season two. Still, Gunn’s comments leave the door open for Iwuji to return to the DCU in a new way.
What Does This Mean for the DCU?
The DC Universe is currently being reshaped by James Gunn and his team. For now, anything Gunn made—like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker—counts as part of the new canon, although there are a few inconsistencies. For example, season one of Peacemaker included a cameo from the Justice League, but those versions of the characters (like Jason Momoa’s Aquaman) aren’t part of the current DCU anymore. In fact, Momoa is set to play Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie.
Could Other Actors Return?
Interestingly, Gunn’s statement suggests that not just Iwuji, but other actors from Peacemaker or The Suicide Squad, could return as entirely new characters in the DCU. So, while it’s hard to imagine Margot Robbie as anyone but Harley Quinn, Gunn’s comments mean it’s possible for her—or even Idris Elba—to pop up as someone new down the line.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how things shake out. But one thing’s for sure: the door is wide open for familiar faces to return in surprising new roles.
