Petit Planet Is Animal Crossing on Steroids — HoYoverse’s Cosmic Life Sim Lets You Farm, Befriend and Voyage Between Mini-Planets

In late August, HoYoverse announced Petit Planet, a new project its official description calls a “cosmic life sim”. The reveal includes a two-minute trailer, details about playable activities, and a beta sign-up for interested players.
Overview
Petit Planet is described by HoYoverse as a “cosmic life sim”. The announcement came in late August and included a short reveal trailer plus a press release outlining core systems.
The official description also says: “Plan and build, plant and harvest, befriend quirky fuzzy neighbors and infuse your world with the magical essence of Luca.” That sentence is part of how HoYoverse frames the game’s core loop.
Trailer details
The reveal includes a roughly two-minute trailer that demonstrates several activities players can perform. In the footage, the protagonist is shown capturing butterflies with a net, mining ore, laying paths, and sharing tea with animal neighbors.
The trailer also shows fantastical elements: blue trees that grow mysterious orbs, and a scene where the protagonist offers an orb to a tree, which then absorbs it and triggers a bloom that changes the ground color. The official site notes you can decorate not only land but also the sky and coast.
Neighbors and activities
Neighbors in Petit Planet are based on real creatures, but their designs appear more elaborate than typical life sims. The trailer and press materials highlight several neighbor roles:
- Cultivator — focuses on growing produce.
- Battle beetle trainer — linked to creature-handling activities seen in the trailer.
- Plushie designer — shown making or displaying plush items.
- Mystic scholar — presented with scholarly or magical themes.
In one trailer moment, the player offers a flower to a flustered human, who appears to be another actual person rather than a background NPC. That interaction is shown visually in the reveal footage.
Social features and travel
The press release describes communal and exploration systems. It states that players can gather in a social hub to drink coffee together and celebrate festivals. Additionally, HoYoverse writes:
“Players may board their trusty vehicle with helpful Neighbors to take a Starsea Voyage, venturing into unknown Islets, discovering rare creatures, uncovering hidden recipes, and forging unexpected friendships across the galaxy.”
Trailer imagery shows the player driving off into space with mini-planets visible in the distance. Each mini-planet appears to host specific characters, and the announcement notes that the state of visited planets is tied to a player’s friendship level with inhabitants. As friendship increases, the number and variety of interactions reportedly expand.
