Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Still Alive—Ubisoft Confirms 2026 Release Window

Ubisoft has once again assured fans that the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still in development and, at least for now, is aiming for a 2026 release date. The update came straight from the official Prince of Persia X account, which wanted to reassure skeptical players that the project is alive and well.

  • Status update on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
  • Release window still set for 2026
  • Development now led by Ubisoft Montreal
  • Official social media statement to calm doubts
  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox One

Ubisoft Montreal takes the reins

The remake was first announced back in 2020, but after multiple delays and a complete reboot of the development process in 2023, Ubisoft Montreal is now leading the project. The team posted a message on X to keep the community in the loop:

“Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose,” they wrote. “This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Visual tease, but no gameplay yet

The post included an image of a stunning domed building set against a setting sun, but the Prince himself is nowhere to be seen. {beautiful domed building at sunset}

Still on track for 2026 — at least for now

After going radio silent for months, Ubisoft finally gave a small update during June 2024’s Ubisoft Forward showcase, confirming the 2026 launch window. There was no fresh gameplay reveal at Summer Game Fest, so this social media post serves as the most recent confirmation that the remake is still in active development.

What platforms will it launch on?

According to the official Ubisoft website, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is planned for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.

Ubisoft’s recent business moves

It’s worth noting that Ubisoft recently split off its biggest franchises — Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six Siege — into a new division, backed by a massive $1.3 billion investment from Tencent. This gives Tencent a 25% stake in the new unit, a move that looks to address Ubisoft’s recent financial challenges.

For now, fans can only wait and hope that the sands really do move with purpose this time.
