Rematch Launches Without Crossplay—Sloclap Promises Fast Fix After Player Backlash

Rematch, the brand-new arcade soccer game from the makers of Sifu, just hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC, but there’s a catch — there’s no crossplay at launch. If you were hoping to team up with friends on other platforms right from the start, you’ll need to wait a bit longer. The studio, Sloclap, has officially apologized and explained why things didn’t go as planned.

  • Rematch released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC
  • No crossplay at launch, despite earlier plans
  • Sloclap apologizes and promises quick updates
  • Crossplay is the team’s top priority

Rematch launches, but crossplay is missing

Let’s get straight to the point: Rematch is out now, bringing fast-paced, arcade-style soccer to your screen. However, there’s a snag. At launch, players can only compete with others on the same platform. So, if you’re jumping in via Game Pass on Xbox, you’re playing exclusively with Xbox users. This has left many excited fans a bit disappointed, especially after earlier hopes for day-one crossplay.

Sloclap addresses the issue and apologizes

The developers were upfront about what happened. In a statement on their official blog, Sloclap said:

“We understand many of you were looking forward to playing Rematch across platforms from day one. We did our utmost to include crossplay at launch, but Rematch is the studio’s first crossplay title, and we faced unforeseen technical complexities which prevented us from having this feature ready in time. We should have communicated as soon as it became apparent that crossplay wouldn’t be available at launch, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience and frustration it caused to some of our players.”

The studio also confirmed that, besides bugfixes, crossplay is now their absolute highest priority. They explained that the technical groundwork is mostly done, but there’s still a need to finish interfaces, debugging, polishing, and console certifications. “All this takes time but we are doing our best to move forward quickly,” they added.

What’s next for Rematch?

Right now, there’s no official date for when crossplay will go live. Sloclap promised to update players as soon as they can share a more precise deadline. They also reminded everyone that features like crossplay can take a while to get right, especially for a studio tackling it for the first time.

Rematch is out now

Despite the hiccup, Rematch is available now on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. If you’re ready to unleash your inner Ronaldinho, you can jump in right away — just keep in mind you’ll be playing with folks on the same platform for now.
