Meet Rex Splode: Explosions and Strategy
Rex Splode isn’t your average fighter. He’s a superpowered human with a mix of cybernetic and chemical enhancements that let him create explosions at will. Plus, he sports a prosthetic hand that fires projectiles, making him a versatile and dangerous opponent.
In Invincible VS, Rex’s gameplay revolves around his exploding projectiles and high mobility. Players can use his powerful attacks to pressure opponents up close or play smart from a distance as a zoner. What’s cool is that Rex’s explosives can act as traps, allowing you to delay blasts and chain them into combo attacks with your teammate for maximum effect.
Building a Killer Roster and Tag System
Invincible VS first caught eyes at Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase in June. The game already features fan favorites like Omni-Man, Invincible, Atom Eve, Thula, and Bulletproof. And now, with Rex Splode added, the roster is shaping up nicely to include a mix of heroes and villains from the beloved Image Comics series.
Mike Willette, executive producer at developer Quarter Up, shared some insight into what makes the game special: “First and foremost, [we’re] building a tournament-quality, brutal superhuman fighting game with a tag component in it.”
He also explained the game’s unique tag system, called Omni Tag: “As part of our Omni Tag system, when you’re in a combo string, you can hold down one of your assists — we call it an Active Tag — they come in and continue the combo right alongside you. You can do it on the ground, you can do it in the air. We wanted to create a really flexible system where you didn’t have to memorize how many ground bounces or wall bounces or OTGs you had in a combo.”
Release Date and Platforms
Invincible VS is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. With its growing roster and innovative mechanics, it’s shaping up to be a must-watch fighting game for fans of the comic and competitive play alike.
