Ring Fit Adventure 2 on Switch 2: Why Nintendo Needs to Make It Happen

It’s been six years since Nintendo surprised us with Ring Fit Adventure, the quirky fitness RPG that actually made working out at home fun. Now, with the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, fans are left wondering: where is Ring Fit 2? Is Nintendo really going to leave us hanging without a new fitness journey? Let’s take a closer look at why the Switch 2 absolutely needs a new Ring Fit Adventure.

  • Why the original Ring Fit Adventure was a hit
  • Current compatibility with Switch 2
  • Why a sequel makes sense now
  • What’s holding Nintendo back?

Ring Fit Adventure – The Fitness Game That Worked

Back in 2019, Ring Fit Adventure turned living rooms into gyms with its creative mix of exercise, RPG battles, and charming characters (yes, even the famous buff dragon). The Joy-Con controllers tracked your moves and made you feel every squat and stretch. For many, it was a real lifesaver during the pandemic lockdowns. If you wanted to stay active without a gym membership, Ring Fit was the answer.

Demand was so high that, during the height of COVID-19, copies were selling out everywhere. By 2022, it was among Nintendo’s best-selling games. The same thing happened years ago with Wii Fit. But here’s the twist: when Nintendo tried a follow-up with Wii Fit U, it just didn’t catch on (see the sales data).

Switch 2: Perfect Timing for Ring Fit 2?

The new Nintendo Switch 2 is flying off the shelves, already moving over 3.5 million units worldwide. Yet, there’s a noticeable lack of exclusive titles for the new hardware. Sure, you can play most Switch games on Switch 2, including the original Ring Fit Adventure, but let’s be honest – fans want something fresh.

Part of what made Ring Fit special was its visual style and low-pressure approach. The game was never intimidating – you could jump in for a quick 10-minute session, and before you knew it, you were hooked. That’s something other fitness games, like the recent Fitness Boxing 3, haven’t quite matched.

Is Nintendo Holding Back?

Nintendo hasn’t abandoned fitness games entirely. Fitness Boxing 3 dropped last December, but its focus on boxing and a more standard gym look just isn’t as playful as Ring Fit’s fantasy world.

Ring Fit Adventure is technically a “forever game” – you can replay it and even create custom workouts. Some players, like Armen B. at CGI Coffee, spent a whole year using it and said the hardware holds up. Still, it’s hard not to wonder: did Nintendo leave some great ideas on the table?

Hardware Compatibility – The Catch

Here’s the big issue: while Ring Fit Adventure works on Switch 2, the new Joy-Cons don’t fit the original Ring-Con or leg strap. According to Nintendo’s official compatibility guide, you’ll need the old Joy-Cons to play. And if you’ve experienced Joy-Con drift, you know that’s not ideal – especially if you’ve just invested in a new console.

Wouldn’t it make sense for Nintendo to launch a Ring Fit Adventure 2, with new hardware built for Switch 2? Fans are ready. The market is ready. And our atrophying muscles? Definitely ready.

Let’s hope Nintendo hears the call – it’s time for a new adventure, and Switch 2 is the perfect place to start.
