Samus Rides a Motorcycle: Metroid Prime 4 Lands on Switch 2 Dec. 4, 2025

Nintendo used its Friday Direct to reveal that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will arrive on Switch 2 on Dec. 4, 2025, and the new trailer gave fans a closer look at Samus and some new toys.

Release date and platform

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is scheduled for release on Dec. 4, 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo announced the date during its recent Nintendo Direct.

Trailer details

The new trailer opens on a stormy landscape with a tall, spiky tower in the distance and thunder in the sky. It doesn’t lay out the plot, but it does show clear gameplay elements.

Notably, Samus now uses a motorcycle. In a sunlit desert sequence she hops on the bike, shoots enemies with her arm cannon while riding, and power-slides into foes. The trailer also announced an art book, Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective, due on Oct. 28.

Development history and context

Nintendo first announced Metroid Prime 4 at E3 in 2017. After a long period without major updates, the project was restarted under Retro Studios in 2019.

Meanwhile, the series has seen recent entries: Metroid Dread launched in 2021, and Metroid Prime Remastered arrived in 2023 as an enhanced edition of the 2002 GameCube title that introduced the Prime series’ first-person, 3D approach.

June 2024 trailer recap

The first Beyond trailer, released in June 2024, showed Samus landing on a bleak planet, performing a forward somersault as she exits her ship, and quickly engaging swarms of alien enemies. It also included a glimpse of an antagonist wearing a helmet split by a vertical green stripe, with two fanged Metroids hovering nearby.

Overall, Nintendo confirmed the release window and offered fresh visuals, while leaving many story details for later updates.
