What happened with the release
Hong Kong-based publisher EC Digital Entertainment announced a re-release of Scarface: The World Is Yours for PC and put a Steam page live. However, the publisher also said a version was unintentionally pushed live on the Epic Games Store and was quickly delisted. Meanwhile, the Steam listing was temporarily hidden while the publisher sorts licensing and technical matters.
EC Digital described the Steam page as a placeholder and said the early Epic Games Store build caused “unexpected complications and concerns.” For the Steam listing, see the Steam page.
Mod files included in the build
Players who downloaded the early Epic Games Store build found at least one fan-made mod bundled with the re-release. The included community fixes reportedly were SilentPatch and Fusion Fix.
Modder Silent said, “none of us were contacted about this in advance (which isn’t necessary as per the license, but would be nice).” Silent also wrote, “I KNOW that the holder of the Scarface license wasn’t willing to re-release the game, so this is suspect.”
For the Fusion Fix mod, see this Nexus page.
Publisher’s note about AI visuals
The publisher’s store text mentioned that the rerelease “uses AI-assisted techniques to improve certain visual elements while keeping the core experience intact. The use of AI is completely optional. Players can choose to play in original or enhanced visuals at any time.”
Official publisher statement
Hi everyone,
We want to sincerely thank all of you who noticed and showed interest in Scarface™: The World Is Yours (2006).
We’ve recently entered urgent discussions with multiple parties concerning the project’s status. After careful consideration, we believe that temporarily hiding the store page is the most appropriate step forward, and we’ve already begun coordinating with Valve to make that happen shortly.
The current page was initially intended as a placeholder while we worked through ongoing licensing and technical matters. Unfortunately, the unintended release of certain builds on other platforms caused unexpected complications and concerns. Because of that, we feel it’s necessary to pause and reevaluate.
We want to apologize to the community for the confusion and concern this situation may have caused. If things change and we’re able to bring the project back in the future, we’ll let you know right away.
This was entirely our responsibility. We also kindly ask that no one harass or share the personal information of anyone involved—especially individuals unrelated to this project. Some of our partners working on completely separate games have already been negatively impacted, and we deeply regret putting them in that position.
We accept full responsibility and are committed to doing better.
Thank you for your understanding.
EC Digital
The publisher also posted about the pause in the Steam discussions.
Quick game history
Scarface: The World Is Yours originally launched in 2006 for PlayStation 2, Windows, and Xbox, with a Wii version following in 2007. The game casts players as Tony Montana trying to rebuild his empire and plays as an open-world action-adventure in the style of Grand Theft Auto. It was developed by Radical Entertainment, the studio behind The Simpsons: Hit & Run and the Prototype series.
At one point a sequel set in Las Vegas was in development, but it was canceled.
