SEGA Teases Sonic the Hedgehog Theme Park Plans—Could the Blue Blur Get His Own Amusement Park?

Could Sonic the Hedgehog be getting his own theme park? It looks like SEGA is seriously considering it! The legendary Blue Blur and his iconic friends might soon have a place where fans can experience their world in real life. If you’re a Sonic fan or just love amusement parks, you’ll want to keep reading for all the details.
- SEGA is working on new location-based attractions, including a possible Sonic theme park.
- Plans include expansion in the United States, Europe, Japan, and South America.
- Roberta Perry, a well-known industry expert, is closely involved in the project.
- SEGA aims to build on Sonic’s 34th anniversary and previous amusement park ventures.
- The company wants to go beyond gaming and make a global entertainment impact.
SEGA’s Big Plans: Sonic and More
SEGA is stepping up its game in the world of location-based entertainment. According to Attractions Magazine, Roberta Perry, president of Roberta Perry & Associates, has been working hand-in-hand with SEGA to turn beloved characters into real-world attractions. She specifically mentioned “lots of Sonic the Hedgehog,” hinting that the fast blue hero could soon star in his very own theme park.
First SEGA Park in the U.S.?
While SEGA already operates parks in Asia, Perry shared that this new project would mark the company’s first foray into the United States. She’s also helping SEGA develop similar experiences in Europe, Japan, and South America. “I’m working with SEGA on some great projects,” said Perry. “This is the first time they’ve been in the location-based entertainment marketplace in the United States—a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog. We’re developing projects here, as well as in Europe, Japan, and South America. I’ve only been as far south as Columbia, and I’ll get to go further into South America, so I’m looking forward to that.”
Industry Experience on Board
Perry isn’t new to the world of theme parks—she’s been involved with big names like Super Nintendo World and How to Train Your Dragon: the Isle of Berk at Epic Universe. She even admitted, “I’ve recently fallen in love with the Sonic character,” describing the Blue Blur as having something “loving” about him.
Happy Birthday, Sonic! 💙

Why Now? Sonic’s 34th Anniversary and SEGA’s Comeback
With Sonic the Hedgehog’s 34th anniversary in full swing, SEGA seems ready to celebrate in a big way. Creating a theme park dedicated to Sonic and friends could be the perfect move to mark the occasion—especially when you look at the success of Mario at Super Nintendo World.
But this isn’t the first time SEGA has talked about expanding its theme park reach. Back in 2016, during Sonic’s 25th anniversary, then-SEGA CEO Hajime Satomi told Attractions Management that amusement parks and location-based attractions were a big part of SEGA’s global strategy.
“Going forward, SEGA’s keyword and main focus is entertainment, and I would like us to be recognized for entertainment internationally in the future,“ said Satomi. “We must now focus on expanding into markets other than smartphones and online gaming – such as indoor theme parks in Asia.”
SEGA’s History with Amusement Parks
SEGA’s amusement park journey isn’t new. In the 1990s, the company launched CA SEGA Joypolis, a series of indoor amusement parks filled with attractions based on its characters. Financial struggles in the early 2000s forced most locations to close, but Joypolis still operates in Japan and China.
Now, with SEGA enjoying renewed success in gaming with franchises like Persona, Yakuza, and of course Sonic the Hedgehog, the company is ready to expand its footprint with new attractions. If all goes as planned, fans might soon be able to experience Sonic’s world in a whole new way. As they say: Gotta go fast!
