Shiny Panic: GameStop’s Koraidon & Miraidon Codes Sell Out — 50-Per-Store Limit Sparks eBay Listings

GameStop’s giveaway of Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been rocky: stores ran out of codes before the promotion properly started, GameStop restocked a limited number of codes, and many local shops are empty again. The promotion runs through Oct. 15, but finding a code has been hit or miss.
Giveaway overview
At the end of September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced a partnered giveaway with GameStop. Until Oct. 15, *shiny* versions of the Scarlet and Violet legendary mascots — Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon — are being distributed via physical GameStop stores in the US and at EB Games in Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, participating stores in countries such as Japan and France were added to the promotion.
Restock and shortages
Stores were given code cards, but the initial batch disappeared quickly. In the days leading up to the promotion some fans reported their local stores had already run out of codes.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, GameStop posted that it had worked with The Pokémon Company to make more codes available. The company said, “Due to overwhelming demand, the first wave of free Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon code cards went very quickly,” and added that “Pokémon has given us a limited number of receipt codes, approximately 50 per store.”

Even after the restock, many stores appear to be out again. The promotion limits codes to one per person, but demand has far outpaced supply at most locations.
Resale and community reaction
Despite the one-per-person rule, some people posted multiple codes for sale online. A screenshot shared in replies to the restock announcement showed eBay listings with several codes available for purchase.

One top reply reads, “These codes right?” which accompanied images of listings. Meanwhile, some players who missed out received help from the community: one redditor wrote, “Waiting on 3rd chance now. Just called my GameStop. They’re out of codes (again),” and other players responded by sharing spare codes for Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon.
That redditor comment can be seen on Reddit.
Why not Mystery Gift or Tera Raid?
So far, neither Nintendo nor The Pokémon Company has distributed the shinies via online methods like Mystery Gift or a Tera Raid event. The reason for choosing a physical, in-store receipt code distribution instead of an online method is currently unknown.
What you can do
If you want one of these shinies, try the following:
- Call your local GameStop or EB Games first; some stores do restock small batches.
- Visit in person early. Codes have been limited — stores received roughly 50 per restock batch.
- Check community channels like Reddit; some players who had extras shared spare codes with others.
- Remember the giveaway ends on Oct. 15, so act before then if you want to try your luck.
