Silksong Patch 2 Secretly Changed the Game — Charge Attacks Now Give Silk and Flintslate Is Buffed

Team Cherry’s second major Silksong patch lists a number of official tweaks, but players have found additional adjustments that aren’t in the notes. For reference, the studio’s post about the update is available on their blog, yet community testing has turned up several stealth changes to crests, tools and attacks.

  1. Charge attacks and silk generation
  2. Flintslate and crest interactions
  3. Clawline, Volt Filament and Silk Skills
  4. Cogwork Wheel and crest notes
  5. Testing sources and full breakdown

Charge attacks and silk generation

Charge attacks now generate silk, according to player testing. This changes how players manage silk during fights, especially versus aerial enemies where charge attacks are commonly used. In addition, the Hunter’s Crest reportedly produces two pips of silk from charge attacks instead of one.

However, there is at least one exception: if you’re using the Architect Crest, players testing the numbers found the charge attack’s effectiveness is reduced by roughly 29%. These figures come from community testing rather than official patch notes, so they reflect measured results.

Flintslate and crest interactions

Players also noticed the Flintslate tool behaves differently after the patch. Specifically, Flintslate charge attacks hit about 50% stronger than before when paired with a Hunter, Reaper or Beast Crest. Conversely, other crest combinations reportedly saw a nerf to Flintslate’s charge damage.

Clawline, Volt Filament and Silk Skills

Meanwhile, the Clawline attack appears slightly weaker when you have the Hunter focus buff active. In contrast, the Volt Filament tool received a functional buff: instead of just applying a few hits, Volt Filament now significantly increases damage to your Silk Skills when activated.

Cogwork Wheel and crest notes

Another community-discovered change affects inventory: the Cogwork Wheel stack size is reduced. Players report you can now carry only 10 of them instead of 16, which was not listed in the official notes. This observation was shared on Reddit and has been picked up across the community.

Also, while some players may consider swapping out the Architect Crest because of the charge-attack change, the Crest is still generally regarded as strong — it’s just less dominant than before, per testing.

Testing sources and full breakdown

These discoveries come from community testing and a detailed breakdown by a content creator. For the full numbers and demonstrations, see the video linked below from YouTuber Visic.

In short, while Team Cherry’s patch notes list several changes, players have uncovered additional, unlisted adjustments to silk generation, tool damage, and item stacks. Therefore, expect some shifts in playstyle until everything is clarified or officially documented.
