Stop Searching by Day—The Missing Wild Zone 2 Pokémon Is Staryu and It Only Spawns at Night

If you explored Wild Zone 2 during the early tutorial in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and came up one Pokémon short, there’s a simple reason: the missing creature only appears at night. Read on to learn exactly which Pokémon is missing, where to find it, and what to watch out for.
How to find the missing Pokémon in Wild Zone 2
The missing Pokémon is Staryu. However, you won’t see it during your first daytime visit to Wild Zone 2. Instead, Staryu only spawns at night in that area, so you need to return after the in-game day has turned to night.
Consequently, you may have to skip other activities—such as continuing with the Z-A Royale sequence—if you want to complete the Wild Zone right away. If you need help advancing time, use the game’s time-of-day options or wait in-game until nightfall.
When you step inside, there are a few Staryu to find, both on land and in the small lake in the center.
Wild Zone 2 Pokémon list
Wild Zone 2 contains six possible Pokémon spawns. To complete the zone, look for:
- Kakuna
- Patrat
- Binacle
- Staryu (night only)
- Magikarp
- Budew
Tips for catching Staryu
First, note that some Staryu spawns are ordinary, while one notable spawn is a level 30 alpha Staryu that sits on one of the shores. As a result, alpha Staryu can be substantially tougher than the regular wild Staryu in the area.
Therefore, if your party is still low-level during the tutorial, avoid engaging the alpha. Instead, catch the regular Staryu in the lake or on shore to finish the zone. You do not need to defeat the alpha to complete Wild Zone 2.
Finally, once you confirm Staryu is missing during a daytime visit, simply return at night and search the lake and shoreline. That should complete your Wild Zone 2 roster.
