Superman Lands on HBO Max Sept. 19 — Streaming Just 70 Days After Theaters

HBO Max will start streaming James Gunn’s Superman on Friday, Sept. 19, arriving just 70 days after the film’s theatrical debut, the cast and studio confirmed.

David Corenswet posted a selfie on Instagram showing the film on the streamer’s homepage and tagged co-star Sara Sampaio, confirming the home release. Then, James Gunn shared the announcement on X, stating the movie lands on the platform Friday, Sept. 19. Warner Bros. later confirmed the same date in an official press release.

HBO Max themed features

To mark the streaming arrival, HBO Max is rolling out a special interface tied to the film. Viewers will see Daily Planet–inspired homepage art and a Fortress of Solitude hub that curates Superman-related content.

Additionally, HBO Max will include interactive elements described as hidden portals that lead into a Lex Luthor “Pocket Dimension,” where the service will provide personalized title recommendations.

Box office milestones and sequel plans

Superman recorded the biggest opening for a Man of Steel film to date. Furthermore, the movie reached the Two Million Watched club on Letterboxd in 45 days.

Warner Bros. and James Gunn have confirmed a follow-up titled Man of Tomorrow. The film will star David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. According to announcements, Man of Tomorrow will begin filming next year and is scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027. Gunn has stated that the project will be a standalone film rather than a direct sequel titled Superman 2.
