Discovery has just revealed some exciting details, including when filming will start and what’s next for the DC universe on both the big and small screens. The Batman Part 2 is Officially Moving Forward

According to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel is officially in pre-production. Filming will kick off this spring, and the movie is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. This news came straight from a letter to shareholders and was reported by Deadline. Robert Pattinson will return as the Caped Crusader, and Colin Farrell will reprise his role as The Penguin. The film was originally planned for 2025, but delays pushed it back as Reeves continued working on the script. Now, the script is done, and James Gunn has already called it “great.”

Superman Sequel and More DC Projects

But that’s not all. James Gunn, who’s been busy with the Superman franchise, is getting ready to write the next installment in the “Super family.” The first film starring David Corenswet as Superman has already made $560 million worldwide, which is a strong start for the new era of DC movies.

In addition, Zaslav shared more about the studio’s plans: “James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), Clayface (2026) and the next Wonder Woman. In addition, The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development.”

The full 10-year vision for DC includes not just movies, but also TV shows, games, and more. Upcoming series include The Penguin, a new season of Peacemaker, and the debut of Lanterns in 2026.

What’s Next for the DCU?

Peacemaker season 2 is up next in the DCU lineup. This season will feature characters from the new Superman film, such as Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord.
