Ten Years Later, Pokémon Legends: Z-A Finally Gives Fennekin, Chespin and Froakie Mega Evolutions — Mega Raichu DLC Confirmed

Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s September Nintendo Direct confirmed that the game will add Mega evolutions for the starter trio Fennekin, Chespin, and Froakie. The reveal brings new Mega forms — including Mega Delphox, Mega Greninja, and Mega Chesnaught — and also lays out how players will obtain them and what else is coming in paid DLC.
- Fennekin, Chespin and Froakie receive Mega evolutions.
- Design details revealed for Mega Delphox, Mega Greninja and Mega Chesnaught.
- Mega Stones are earned in the game’s ranked mode.
- DLC adds two Mega Raichu forms plus apparel and a Luxurious Poké Ball set.
Starter Megas revealed
During the Direct, the developers showed new Mega forms for the three starters. Each Mega has a distinct design and new visual elements that set them apart from their base forms.
Mega Delphox appears with three elemental broom-like sweepers rather than the single floating broom from its normal form. Meanwhile, Mega Greninja is shown with a large water shuriken and uses its tongue scarf in attacks. The Direct notes the shuriken is formed from Greninja’s own mucus.
For Mega Chesnaught, the design shifts toward a more regal, armored look with a cape and large pauldrons that can detach and be thrown at opponents. In addition, Mega Fennekin retains a witchy magical theme and uses dazzling attacks; the official website notes that the witchy Pokémon does it to eventually “burn them to ashes”. You can see the official note here.
How to get the Mega forms
To obtain the new Mega evolutions, players must earn the appropriate Mega Stones via Legends: Z-A’s ranked mode. In short, progression through ranked multiplayer content is required to unlock and use these Mega forms in-game.
DLC and new Raichu forms
The game will receive paid DLC centered on Hoopla, a Mythical psychic/ghost-type that can warp space. That DLC will add two Mega Raichu forms, labeled Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y.
Additionally, buying the DLC grants new player apparel and a Luxurious Poké Ball set that is effective at capturing specific types of creatures.
Context and timing
These Mega additions come more than a decade after Mega Evolution first appeared in the series. The new reveals also follow a previously leaked list of Mega forms that correctly predicted earlier reveals such as Mega Malamar, Hawlucha, and Victreebel.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is not yet released; the Direct provided the first official look at these Megas and the DLC plans ahead of launch.
