Tencent Revamps Light of Motiram After Sony Lawsuit, Delays Release to 2027
If you’ve been following the drama around Light of Motiram, Tencent’s upcoming open-world game, things just got interesting. After Sony filed a lawsuit over similarities to Horizon Zero Dawn, Tencent has quietly updated Light of Motiram’s marketing materials, making the game look a lot less like Sony’s hit franchise. Let’s break down what’s changed and where things stand now.
- Light of Motiram’s Steam page and trailers have been updated after Sony’s lawsuit
- The game’s art and descriptions now look and sound less like Horizon Zero Dawn
- Release window pushed to 2027
- Game still available to wishlist on Steam
What Happened Between Sony and Tencent?
Back in July, Sony took legal action against Tencent, claiming that Light of Motiram’s marketing was so close to Horizon Zero Dawn that it could confuse players. According to Sony, Tencent had even pitched them on an “Eastern Horizon Zero Dawn” concept before—one that included features like survival mechanics, which later popped up in Light of Motiram.
Major Changes on Steam
Since then, Tencent has made some clear changes to Light of Motiram’s presence online. If you check out the game’s Steam storefront, you’ll notice most of the main visuals have been swapped out. The original trailer is gone, replaced with different artwork that focuses more on digital creatures than on the protagonist who looked a lot like Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. The color palette is now less “cyber blue” and more unique to Motiram. Some older screenshots remain, but the ones that most closely resembled Horizon Zero Dawn’s style—especially those featuring the heroine in familiar-looking gear—have disappeared.

How Is the Game Described Now?
The game’s description has also changed. While it still talks about boss fights, it no longer says these battles are against “primal robots.” Instead, the summary is much more general:
“In this wilderness where civilization is a distant memory, primal cultures, extreme weather, will constantly test your survival skills. Make smart use of everything around you to stay alive and face off against formidable bosses, every step is fraught with danger and requires courage. Only by overcoming the challenges of survival can you carve out a place for yourself in this unforgiving land.”
What’s Next for Light of Motiram?
With all these updates, Light of Motiram now gives off a different vibe—at least in its marketing. The game hasn’t launched yet, so Tencent still has time to tweak the actual gameplay if needed. The release window is now set for sometime in 2027, which is a delay from the original plan.
Where Can You Find It?
Light of Motiram remains listed on Steam, and you can still add it to your wishlist. It’s also part of Steam’s Multiplayer Games Fest, a celebration of Chinese multiplayer games featuring discounts and unlockable items like profile backgrounds. For now, Sony hasn’t made any further comments, but it looks like Tencent is trying to steer clear of more legal trouble.
