Netflix released a new trailer Tuesday for The Witcher season 4, the penultimate season. The short preview shows Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri on separate paths after the events of season 3, and it confirms several casting returns and new alliances.

What the trailer shows

The trailer opens by making clear that the three leads are separated. Ciri (Freya Allan) is traveling with the Rats, a gang of young outlaws. Meanwhile, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) is gathering a force to oppose the evil mage Vilgefortz. At the same time, Geralt (Liam Hemsworth) and Jaskier (Joey Batey) are shown traveling the Continent in search of Ciri, forming new alliances as they go.

Additionally, the trailer highlights members of Geralt’s Hansa, including the archer Milva (Meng’er Zhang) and the mysterious Regis (Laurence Fishburne). The footage also follows up on a September teaser that showed Hemsworth’s Geralt subduing a wraith.

Casting and characters to watch

Season 4 brings back main cast members and introduces some faces that book readers have been waiting to see on screen. To be specific:

• Freya Allan returns as Ciri, now aligned with the Rats.
• Anya Chalotra returns as Yennefer, building forces against Vilgefortz.
• Liam Hemsworth steps into the role of Geralt after Henry Cavill departed the show; Hemsworth will wear the character’s white wig starting this season.

Liam Hemsworth’s comments

Hemsworth recently spoke about his portrayal and the character’s state after season 3. As he told Entertainment Weekly, “He’s severely injured. Mentally, he’s dealing with things that he’s not used to, which is self-doubt and this frustration. Now all of a sudden, you’re seeing the very human side to this person, but what you’re also seeing is the determination to fix it.”

Netflix will release season 4 all at once on October 30. Also, coinciding with the show, there is a new Witcher book available that follows the adventures of a young Geralt of Rivia.
