Turn the Foxes, Not the Symbols — How Sarufutsu Lighthouse Unlocks a Secret Fox Sanctuary in Ghost of Yōtei

Ghost of Yōtei’s Sarufutsu Lighthouse puzzle looks fancier than it is, but the actual solution is straightforward and the prize at the end is not a weapon or a chest of supplies. Sarufutsu Lighthouse location in Ghost of Yōtei
Sarufutsu Lighthouse sits at the far northeast edge of the map in the Teshio Ridge region. Specifically, it is northeast of the Red Crane Inn and just north of Sentinel Forest, so head to that corner of Ezo if you want to find it.
Sarufutsu Lighthouse puzzle solution in Ghost of Yōtei
When you go inside the lighthouse base you’ll see four large fox statues, two smaller fox statues, and two empty pedestals in front of a locked door. There are also symbols near the statues and on the door, but those symbols do not matter for the solution.
Do this:
- Rotate the two large fox statues so each one is facing the small fox that sits between them.
- That action releases the lock on the small fox statue, allowing you to pick it up.
- Place each small fox statue on the two empty pedestals in front of the door.
- Once both small fox statues are placed, the lock on the door is released and you can exit the lighthouse from the back.

Opening the locked door gives you access to a path behind the lighthouse that includes some light platforming. After you drop down, Atsu will note the bodies of hunters along the route; however, you will not encounter a fight immediately after the lighthouse.
Along that path you will find two small buildings. Search them first: there are crafting materials in both, and the larger building contains an Ainu item. Further ahead is a fox locked in a cage. Free the fox, then follow it into a cave.
Inside the cave you will see a large bear below. Climb up past the bear, follow the path, and it will lead you into a clearing called Sanctuary Grove. The grove is a safe area for wildlife, especially foxes, and contains the grove’s caretaker. After speaking with the caretaker she will offer to provide homes for any foxes you find around Ezo. Finally, interact with the deer at the side exit to reach a shrine nearby.
