Unlock Hidden Fossils in Donkey Kong Bananza’s Lagoon Layer – Your Ultimate Guide to Anomalocaris and Whale Finds!

Where to Find Fossils in Donkey Kong Bananza’s Lagoon Layer

If you’re diving into Donkey Kong Bananza and want to unlock some cool clothes or fur dye for Donkey Kong and Pauline, hunting down fossils in the Lagoon Layer is a must. While common fossils like ammonite are everywhere (and DK’s sonar clap makes spotting them a breeze), some fossils are trickier to find. Here’s a clear guide on where to locate the rarer anomalocaris and whale fossils in the Lagoon Layer.

  • Types of fossils in the Lagoon Layer
  • Locations of the 10 Anomalocaris fossils
  • Where to find the giant whale fossil

Fossil Types in the Lagoon Layer

The Lagoon Layer features three main fossil types: ammonite, anomalocaris, and a massive whale fossil. Since it’s a lagoon environment, all these fossils are water-themed. We won’t cover the abundant ammonites here, but will focus on the bigger, harder-to-find anomalocaris and whale fossils.

Locations of Anomalocaris Fossils

There are 10 anomalocaris fossils scattered across various sublayers in the Lagoon Layer. We’ve numbered them for easy tracking as you progress.

Anomalocaris #1 (Sublayer 100)

Look for this fossil on a concrete wall behind the Reservoir Bank tuning fork. There’s a boom rock nearby you can throw at the wall to collect it.

Anomalocaris #2 (Sublayer 100)

Underneath the large pipe structure, find a voided Banandium Gem. Follow the void trail through walls to a sealed object. Destroy it, then turn around to spot the fossil on the wall.

Anomalocaris #3 (Sublayer 100)

Stand beneath Cranky Kong’s floating island and look up. Throw chunks at the fossil until it breaks to collect.

Anomalocaris #4 (Sublayer 100)

Climb the giant pipe structure but avoid the swirl center. On the side of the middle pipe, break the stone wall to reveal the fossil inside. Rolling into the wall can break it and collect the fossil in one move.

Anomalocaris #5 (Sublayer 100)

Behind the giant pipe structure’s edge, find three floating bubbles. Throw a chunk at the middle bubble to get the fossil.

Anomalocaris #6 (Sublayer 100)

Just before crossing the bridge, drop into the water and swim toward a cave opening. Inside, an anomalocaris fossil sits under an antickoid. Hit the antickoid to drop its boom rock on the fossil for collection.

Anomalocaris #7 (Sublayer 101)

Near the Teeleporter in the village, turn right to find this fossil. Throw a chunk at a shifty block to create a platform, then hop across to grab it.

Anomalocaris #8 (Sublayer 101)

Behind the Style Shop, the fossil is embedded in a concrete block. Use your Kong Bananza powers or throw a boom rock across water to reach it.

Anomalocaris #9 (Sublayer 101)

Find this fossil behind shipping containers near Elder Kong. Swim or walk along the edge to reach it around the corner.

Anomalocaris #10 (Sublayer 102)

Before crossing the bridge, climb down to a wall opening where this fossil is hidden.

Where to Find the Whale Fossil

The whale fossil in Sublayer 101 is huge and hard to miss. The catch? You can’t reach it at first. As you progress and raise the water level, swimming over to the fossil becomes possible. Then, you can collect it by wailing on it.
