Where to Find Honedge in Pokémon Go
Honedge isn’t just lurking in the wild like many other Pokémon. To catch one, you have a few options:
- Tier-one raids: During the “Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales” event from July 22 to 27, Honedge appears in tier-one raids.
- PvP rewards: You can get Honedge as an encounter reward after winning three battles from rank 6 and above during the same event.
- Post-event PvP: After the event ends, Honedge can still appear as a reward from rank 16 and up in PvP battles.
Keep in mind, Honedge isn’t guaranteed as a reward every time you win in PvP — it’s part of a pool of possible Pokémon depending on your rank. Also, Niantic’s official blog mentions that using a Premium Battle Pass can increase your chances to encounter Honedge in the premium PvP track.
How Aegislash’s Forms Work in Pokémon Go
Aegislash is special because it switches between two forms mid-battle: Shield Forme and Blade Forme. Each form changes its stats:
- Shield Forme: Higher defense and takes much less damage.
- Blade Forme: Higher attack but lower defense.
At the start of battle, Aegislash appears in Shield Forme. When it uses a charged attack, it switches to Blade Forme. If you use a protect shield or swap it out, it switches back to Shield Forme. Interestingly, Shield Forme Aegislash takes significantly reduced damage — so much that some players aren’t sure if this was intentional or a bug.
This means a smart strategy is to absorb heavy enemy charged attacks while in Shield Forme, then switch to Blade Forme to deal damage back.
One limitation is that Aegislash can’t be used in raids yet, as it’s currently only available for PvP battles. This might change in future updates.
How to Evolve Doublade and Aegislash
Evolving Honedge is straightforward. You’ll need Honedge Candy, but no extra tricks like setting it as your buddy. Here’s what you need:
- 25 Honedge Candy to evolve Honedge into Doublade
- 100 Honedge Candy to evolve Doublade into Aegislash
So, to get your fully evolved Aegislash, plan for at least 125 Honedge Candy. Don’t forget to use Pinap Berries to speed up candy collection!
