Where to find the Artist in Death Stranding 2

The Artist’s hideout is tucked away in Mexico, just northwest of the C1 South Distribution Center. You’ll find her living in a mountain bunker—so be ready for a bit of a climb. While you can technically visit her whenever you like, the journey is much easier after your first boss fight, especially if you’ve managed to snag a vehicle. Trust us, hiking up that steep mountain with a full load isn’t fun!

How to start the Artist’s quest

Once you leave the lab after your first boss battle and make your way towards the Distribution Center, you’ll get a notification: the Artist has lost some cargo. The game doesn’t give you any hints about where it is, and the location might be random for each player. For us, it popped up right at the base of the mountain road—so keep your eyes peeled.

Hit L1 to scan for nearby cargo. The white text can be tough to spot during the day, so you may need to get close to check if it’s the Artist’s missing vase. Once you’ve found it, follow the mountain road and take the right fork when the path splits. This will lead you straight to the Artist’s bunker. Deliver the vase, and you’ll establish a new connection—plus, you’ll finally add this slice of Mexico to your chiral network.

Artist rewards: suit color unlocks

Strengthening your bond with the Artist pays off. Each time your relationship rank increases, you’ll unlock two new color schemes for Sam’s suit. The first rewards are yellow and coyote brown—definitely a welcome change from endless gray. Note that new requests from the Artist won’t unlock immediately, so be patient if you want the full palette.

Don’t wait too long!

Heads up: once the story moves forward and you unlock fast travel, you won’t be able to return to Mexico for a while. If you’re eager to rock that yellow or coyote brown look, make sure to complete the Artist’s quest before Sam leaves the lab for good. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck waiting to finish this side content.
