Vivienne Medrano Reveals Homestuck Pilot, Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Date, and Helluva Boss’ Two‑Season Plan

Vivienne Medrano’s Spindlehorse studio is busy in 2025: there’s an 11-minute Homestuck pilot in the works, Hazbin Hotel season 2 is landing on Prime later this year, and Helluva Boss has shifted into a new production phase with more seasons planned. Below are the confirmed, concrete details from recent interviews and announcements.
- Homestuck: an 11-minute pilot by Spindlehorse’s new Australian arm, Spindleroo; audience response will shape the future.
- Hazbin Hotel: season 2 arrives on Prime Video Oct. 29; A24-backed show aims for five seasons overall.
- Helluva Boss: Prime is producing seasons 3 and 4 as connected projects; a new episode called “Mission Zero” reintroduces the cast.
- Other work: Medrano plans shorts and other projects outside the Hellaverse when time allows.
What’s the plan for the Homestuck pilot?
Medrano said, What’s exciting about Homestuck is, it’s very experimental,
and the pilot is meant to test a lot of things. The 11-minute Homestuck pilot is the first project from Spindlehorse’s new Australian branch, Spindleroo. It’s also the studio’s first project that’s built around characters Medrano did not create herself.
Medrano called the pilot, It’s the test pilot for lots of things,
including the studio, the production process, a new style, and new technology. She said the pilot’s future depends on audience reaction: The audience reaction is going to determine whether studios are interested [in developing Homestuck as a full animated series], and whether we want to continue it on [the Vivziepop] channel.
Regarding story scope, Medrano noted, I believe it encompasses most of the first chapter, because the first chapter is pretty small,
and she described the project as a substantial little chunk of the original comic’s opening. Skye Henwood, Spindlehorse’s animation director and a long-time fan, is working with Homestuck creator Andrew Hussie to condense the comic for animation.
Medrano also said the Homestuck pilot opens doors: the studio hopes to hear pitches from other webcomic creators and uplift new voices if those projects make sense for Spindlehorse.
The plan for Hazbin Hotel season 2
Hazbin Hotel’s crowdfunded pilot debuted on YouTube in 2019, A24 picked the show up, and season 1 reached Prime Video in 2024. Season 2 is set to arrive on Prime Video on Oct. 29, and seasons 3 and 4 have already been greenlit.
Medrano said plainly, Season 2 is what the show was meant to be.
She explained that season 1 had to cram a lot into a small runtime, whereas season 2 gets more breathing room and more consistent pacing. The second season is still eight episodes long, but some episodes run longer when required.
On themes, Medrano described season 2 as a mix of a cautionary tale about misinformation, and [a story] about remembering who you are, and not letting someone basically tell you who you are.
She said that season 2 will explore identity, power, and insecurity across both heroes and villains, and that the wider five-season plan for the show is intact.
Helluva Boss’ new home, and its old home
Helluva Boss also began on YouTube in 2019. Prime Video added the early seasons in 2025 and is currently producing seasons 3 and 4. Prime released a new episode called “Mission Zero” as part of the platform launch; Medrano described that episode as a fresh starting point that fits the show’s established lore.
Medrano said the original Helluva Boss pilot “breaks a lot of those rules” and that the new material helps keep the Hellaverse consistent across both shows. She called the new episode, It’s basically a new pilot that has the spirit of the original pilot, but fits with the current Hellaverse and its lore.
Regarding the series plan, Medrano confirmed she’s mapped out Helluva Boss through season 4 and has the ending planned: I have the ending [planned out] exactly. We actually have mapped out the whole series. … We’re making seasons 3 and 4 together as two massive connected projects,
she said. Dates for those seasons weren’t specified, and Medrano noted timelines may shift based on production needs.
What’s up beyond the Hellaverse?
Medrano said she has other projects she wants to develop once there’s time to write and produce them. Examples include a short called Bad Luck Jack (based on her older webcomic) and the thesis short Timber, which she described as a little Western musical.
She said she hopes to make more shorts, possibly a graphic novel, and that she’s interested in supporting outside creators as Spindlehorse grows. However, she added she must finish writing commitments on both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss before those plans advance.
