How to get fossil Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Early in the game you get Side Mission 27, “Restored from a Fossil.” First, talk to Reg on the second floor of the Pokémon Research Lab. He explains that he can restore fossils into living Pokémon and even gives you 20,000 Pokémon Dollars to buy your first fossil.
Where to buy fossils
Head to the Stone Emporium on Vernal Avenue in the south of Lumiose City. It’s a short walk up from the Research Lab, and you can also fast travel to the Vernal Pokémon Center just above it for convenience. The shop sells stones for special evolutions and certain Mega Stones, plus the fossils you need.
What each fossil becomes
The store sells three relevant fossils:
- Jaw Fossil — 20,000 Pokémon Dollars; restored into Tyrunt.
- Sail Fossil — 20,000 Pokémon Dollars; restored into Amaura.
- Old Amber — 30,000 Pokémon Dollars; restored into Aerodactyl.
After you buy a fossil, return to the Pokémon Research Lab and talk to Reg. He will restore it. Each restored fossil Pokémon starts at level 20. Tyrunt and Amaura both evolve at level 39, but note that Tyrunt must level up during the day and Amaura during the night. Meanwhile, Aerodactyl can Mega Evolve; you can get its Mega Stone from Quasartico Inc.
Notes and tips
After completing the side mission you can keep buying fossils from the Stone Emporium whenever you have the money. Therefore, you can collect multiple fossil Pokémon over time. Also, remember the price differences: Jaw and Sail are cheaper at 20,000, while Old Amber costs 30,000. Finally, if you want Aerodactyl’s Mega Evolution, look for the Mega Stone at Quasartico Inc.
