Where to Find Acorn Shells and Acorn Tops
Acorns are the source of both acorn shells and acorn tops, but Grounded 2 keeps their exact locations a bit of a secret. One of the first places you should check is the ridge above the tunnel leading to the Ominent training facility — the area with lots of gnats buzzing around. It’s not the safest zone, so make sure to equip your best armor and bring a pebblet hammer for breaking acorns. A bow and arrows come in handy too, since you’ll face some tough enemies like Larva (the giant, dangerous ones) and Orb Weaver Jrs (medium-sized spiders). Both can be stunned with hammer combos or charged attacks, which makes your job easier.
Remember, you’ll need the Omni-Tool’s basic hammer function to actually break open acorns and collect their parts. If you stumble upon acorns before unlocking this tool, you won’t be able to harvest anything yet.
Exploring Near the Giant Oak Tree
If the ridge doesn’t have enough acorns for you, head south of the snackbar toward the giant oak tree — the mother of all acorns in the game. You’ll find more acorns scattered around the roots. Watch out for a giant, spiked caterpillar roaming nearby, but it won’t attack if you leave it alone. Orb Weaver Jrs also patrol the area’s edges, so be ready to deal with some spiders.
Harvesting Tips and Respawn Info
When breaking acorns, it’s smart to save your game first. The number of pieces you get can vary quite a bit — sometimes it takes several acorns before you even get an acorn top. It’s unclear whether this randomness is due to the drop system or because pieces can get lost in the grass after breaking. Not every part of the acorn is collectible, similar to how grass seeds work.
Good news: acorns respawn after a couple of in-game days, so if you don’t get what you need right away, you won’t have to wait too long. Still, reloading your save before breaking an acorn can save you time and frustration.
