Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Battles Steam Backlash with Huge Player Count and Free DLC Patch

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – A Hit with Rough Launch on Steam
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is making waves as an action-packed Soulslike RPG, but it’s also facing a storm of criticism on Steam. Despite its engaging gameplay, the game has racked up nearly 16,000 mostly negative reviews shortly after launch. The reason? Performance issues on PC that have frustrated many players.
- High player count but mostly negative Steam reviews
- Major complaints about poor PC optimization
- Patch 1.3 released to fix bugs, improve performance, and offer free DLC
- Gameplay tweaks to balance difficulty in Chapter 2
Strong Player Base, But Performance Woes
The game has attracted a huge number of players, with a peak of over 131,000 concurrent users on Steam within 24 hours of release. However, many of these players are voicing frustration due to poor PC performance and bugs. While the PlayStation 5 version runs smoothly after some graphics tweaks, the PC port is described as an unoptimized mess.
Additionally, there were reports about missing pre-order bonuses and pricing inconsistencies across different regions. Leenzee Games and 505 Games, the developer and publisher respectively, issued a statement addressing these problems:
“These problems should never have occurred, and we deeply regret the inconvenience and negative experience some players are currently facing.”
Patch 1.3 Brings Fixes, Improvements, and Free DLC
To tackle the issues head-on, Patch 1.3 was released early Friday morning. This update includes:
- Performance optimizations – including manual Low Latency Mode toggle and VRAM optimizations for GPUs with 8GB or less memory.
- Bug fixes – such as fixing a crash that happened right after the company logo on startup and smoothing out stutters during finisher animations.
- Content corrections – ensuring both Standard and Deluxe Edition owners receive the correct rewards. Deluxe Edition buyers need to log in and claim their rewards at the donation box in Reverent Temple.
- Gameplay balance – fewer landmines and adjusted damage in Chapter 2 to make the challenge fairer.
- Free soundtrack DLC – as a goodwill gesture, all Steam owners get the Original Soundtrack DLC for free.
